How will "The Response" respond to you?
This hand-crafted one of a kind gem is another great creation from Mill Hill Audio. With simplicity and artistic expression in mind, Jonathan has created another winner. This amplifier has a three way selector switch that takes playing to another level without being overly complicated. The tone rings through. Stop, listen and experience quality. Be inspired to write a new song with the new sounds that emanate from this simply wonderful piece of equipment.
*Engineering Notes: This actual Response Amplifier, is the first prototype. "The Response" is a play on words, in one way a "Response" to the market who asked for "The Love Amplifier" in a less expensive package. Being an artist, I did not want to cheapen myself by releasing an MDF / Steel version of the Love Amplifier. I chose to reinvent my Love with the addition of a circuit that does not change the core of the Love Circuit, although at the end of the circuit, after the output transformer core, we have three taps for speaker load impedance selection at 4, 8 & 16 Ohms. I have always loved the way an 8 Ohm speaker sounds different loaded to the 4 and 16 Ohm taps. So that is how I changed my Love Circuit, you could say my Love has grown to incorporate others.
The aforementioned play on words is that the "Response" was to "client requests" and to the "speaker impedance", due to the fact that the only audio control on the "Response Amplifier" is a three way selector for 4, 8 & 16 Ohms. These taps alter the tonal response of the amplifier / speaker relationship. Some of you may be asking "why do I need to alter my speaker Response?" Because, it offers your various guitars an opportunity to thicken or thin.
So that's it, The "Response" is a "Love Circuit" with a trick on the end.
All of the purity and adaptability with tube selections of Preamplifier Tubes ( 12AX7, 12AY7, 12AU7, 12AT7, 5751, 7025 ect.), Power Tubes ( 6V6, 6L6, 5881, 6550, 7581, EL34, KT66, KT88) and Rectifier Tubes ( 5Y3, 5V4, 5U4, GZ34, CV387).
With this many selections and various qualities of brands and ages of tubes, you will be able to nail your sound. For instance, Jazz Players love the 12AU7 low gain tube into a 6550 power tube which is very clear with a glossy top end, they choose the 5U4 Rectifier tube for its clean power with the least amount of Power Sag. This sound is very finger sensitive with all guitar nuance noticed. Swapping different Jazz Guitars to finally hear the wood, is the normal next step. Blues and Rock Players like a little more "Rusty Switch Blade Knife" in their tone and the 5751 Preamplifier tube coupled to a 6V6 or EL34 Power tube for different power tube distortions paired with a 5V4 or GZ34 rectifier tube for massive power sag.
